Honeydew melons possibly originated in West Africa more than 4 thousand years ago.
Honeydew is a large round or oval melon with a smooth skin and green or orange flesh.
Look for near ripe or ripe (creamy white to yellow skin), unblemished fruit that is firm with velvety skin.
Substitute: Cantaloupe, Crenshaw melon.
