In the late 70's and throughout the 80's I was often stationed in Korea. I would frequently go off base and visit the open market areas in Kunsan, Suwon, Songtan, and Seoul. The fresh food sellers would always draw me in with the sheer variety of fresh vegetables and seafoods offered by the multitude of vendors. Mixed in among these were the small stalls and carts that sold soups, snacks, and quick meals to the market goers as they made the rounds of the many different merchants for their shopping. The aroma of the cooking foods was amazing, and some of the best Korean meals I have eaten were found in these tiny, no frills places.
